Thesis Title: An Autoethnography of Fat Activism
About
I am a fat activist-researcher based in London, and currently a Government of Ireland PhD scholar at the University of Limerick, courtesy of the Irish Social Sciences Platform.
I started out as a zine-maker and continue to publish and be active in various DIY-culture projects, on- and offline.
I am the sole author of two books: Fat and Proud: The Politics of Size (1998), non-fiction based on my MA dissertation, and a novel, Cherry (2002), which was seized by Canada Customs and also voted Best Book in Diva's Lesbian Excellence Awards.
I am a member of the editorial board for Fat Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Body Weight and Society.
I have worked as a journalist and my writing has been published in many magazines, zines and anthologies.
I have my own gang, The Chubsters.
I am a Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
My short films have screened at festivals around the world.
I perform in the queercore bands The 123s and Homosexual Death Drive.
