About

I originally trained in classical music composition and performance. Finding that the abstractions of composition lent themselves well to the intricacies of computer systems design, I built a career as a consulting technical architect and manager in software firms. Feeling again the pull of my more creative past, I have melded my interests in music and management with a position at Comhaltas, bringing my experience to bear on the promotion and preservation of our Irish cultural traditions.

In the process of moving between the for-profit and non-profit realms, I have learned and practised tested techniques of project and personnel management, business development, community organising and the use of modern information technologies to develop organisational branding and communicate a message. I have pursued a path of continued learning in parallel with my professional work, culminating most recently in an MA degree and ongoing PhD studies in Ethnomusicology from the University of Limerick.
